Headed out to the wilderness. Beautiful weekend for camping. First fire on Friday night.
Listen to music, look at photography, bicycling, or read ramblings below.

Gloomy

The epitome of gloomy weather. Only thing missing is a lonesome foghorn.
Time to Invest
I finally setup a brokerage account. I’m 27, and it seems like this is as good of a time than any to go ahead and invest in the market. Lately, I’ve been able to put more money away in my bank savings account. I noticed that it was hardly appreciating any, and figured that I could be doing more to facilitate growth.
I plan on starting out with some mutual funds. Then, once I become more familiar with how it all works, possibly get into stocks.
It’s exciting getting started. I signed up on Sunday, and have been in the process of getting my checking account hooked into it so that I can automatically transfer money over every month to invest. There are many benefits from doing this, and since I have a steady job, it seems like a no brainer.
If you are in a similar position, (i.e. you have a salary job and some money in a bank savings account) go ahead and just dive in to the market. Go to someplace like scotttrade.com or schwab.com. They have plently of information and advice to help your money grow. Do it now. The longer you wait, the more you’ll regret it.
Hair Riddance!
Brooke cut my hair again on Monday. It feels so much better not having all that hair to deal with.
I had fun chatting with her about Halloween and her new place in Easthill. She really likes it out there. We talked about what we were planning on being for Halloween, I told her I had no idea, she said she was gonna be Wednesday from the Addams Family.
We started talking about movies, and she told me about this one where there were a bunch of hippies tripping on acid or something, and this serial killer killed them all, but they thought they were hallucinating. After hearing her talk about it, I figured out what I’m gonna be for Halloween.

This Blog Has Been Deprecated
I am ditching blogger because it is a pain in the ass to update. This is only the case when you are hosting your own files. It has to FTP all the files to my server and for some reason, that takes an…

Ruby: Modular Tags
It’s hard to tell, but I’ve really grown a lot in terms of Ruby. I’ve spent most of tonight refactoring our radius tag system to be more modular. I’ve always wanted to be able to split up the tags into different files based on the tags. The CMS I have built utilizes polymorphism for resources. So, before, the tags file was huge… encompassing not only basic resource tags, but also articles, galleries, etc. Now, I can factor those out into their own files and it’s much more beautiful.
I will admit, I stole a little bit of code from RadiantCMS. Thank goodness for open-source. We would be using RadiantCMS, but our requirements would not fit around that system.
Most of my time tonight has been in modules. I’ve been learning a lot about them and will probably use them more in the future. They are great for sectioning out code and mixing in where you wish. Plus, there are a bunch of hook methods to utilize… but I haven’t found that need just yet.

Snaggletooth
Spent today at my parents house washing clothes and hanging out. When I arrived, Savannah was in a bad mood because she had a loose tooth. My mom and I spent several hours trying to get her to pull it out, but she was incapable due to fear of pain. We can all empathize… even with a loose tooth, it still hurts to yank it out. She wanted mom to help, but when it came down to it, she wouldn’t let anyone try to pull it. It was pretty frustrating, and I ended up getting a headache.
Hurricane Ike looks like it will miss us, thankfully. It still hasn’t hit the gulf, so there’s no telling where it will go. The projected path is either Lousiana or Texas.
Just finished organizing a bunch of photos in iPhoto. Exported a few older ones and uploaded them to my iDisk.
I’m super sore from going tubing yesterday. It was pretty fun. Got a little sunburned, nothing excruciating though.
Spent some time today planning our trip to Seattle. It’s very overwhelming, but I figure if I plan one route at a time, I can get through it. There are tons of great trip-planning tools, however I feel like they could all be improved. I have ideas for a travel app. One idea is the ability to make trip notes while en route. It would have to be easily accessed through a any device. It would also be nice to geotag those notes and autonomously create a community of notes.
Moving to Tumblr
If only I would have pryed a little deeper into tumblog, I would have converted from Blogger a long time ago. They allow private posts (duh!) and tags (duh!) So, there was nothing holding me back. Just finished importing all my posts from Blogger. There are a lot of stale links, broken images that I need to fix.
Commenting isn’t baked in here at tumblog, but I guess it’s not a big issue. They recommend a method in the help section that I might investigate.
Overall, I’m much happier now. I was with Blogger for a year or so? I wonder how long I’ll stay at tumblog. It’s gonna be much more tedious to move all my posts to a new blogging system, however I can’t see how anything could be better.
